Man Who Admitted Planting Camera In Rec Center Changing Room Sentenced
GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - A man who admitted to planting a camera in a rec center changing room has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Justin Robert West appeared in a Weld County courtroom Wednesday afternoon for sentencing.
Last month he had pleaded guilty to two counts of invasion of privacy for sexual gratification, both a felony and misdemeanor. As part of a plea deal three other were charges dropped.
Police say last summer a woman found a camera located inside an air freshener in the changing area of the Family Fun Plex Recreation Center in Greeley. Police were able to get West's image from the camera and he was later arrested in August at his home in Iowa and brought back to Greeley to face the charges.
West was given the opportunity to speak at his sentencing. Through his tears he started out saying how sorry he was and stated he wanted to sincerely apologize to his victims and the community.
West continued to say how his actions were not a reflection of his moral upbringing.
West's mother and wife were also in court for his sentencing. They traveled from Iowa. They had no comment.
According to prosecutors, Iowa City police are investigating a similar case involving West where images were taken of people without their consent. In some cases, prosecutors say the images are of children.
