Light Rail Train Strikes, Kills Pedestrian In Central Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - Light rail service was disrupted for more than an hour Wednesday morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train.

The pedestrian was at the 10th and Osage station in Central Denver at approximately 4:50 a.m. and somehow stepped directly into the path of the train.

"We're going to go get the video and see exactly what happened. There is a complete video of the scene. It appears we had a gentleman that was at the station, possibly waiting for the train, we're not quite sure of that. He tried to get up, he leaned in and was hit by a passing train," said Denver Police Det. David Carroll.

Officials with RTD said the train driver braked in an effort to avoid the collision.

The male victim was taken to the hospital with what police said were critical injuries. He died a few hours later.

Train service was disrupted until 6:15 a.m., when all the lines began running normally again.
