Multiple Gun Control Measures To Be Considered Monday By State Lawmakers
DENVER (AP) - Mark Kelly, the husband of former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, is scheduled to testify Monday in support of at least one of the seven gun-control bills being considered by the Colorado Legislature.
Eileen McCarron, president of the Colorado Ceasefire Capitol Fund, said Kelly will speak in support of a House bill that requires all private gun sales and transfers to be subject to a background check. The retired Navy Captain and astronaut has testified before Congress in support of gun control measures.
Giffords, a former Democratic congresswoman from Arizona, was injured at a meet-and-greet when she was shot in the head by Jared Lee Loughner in January 2011.
Six people were killed in the shooting.
Thirteen others were wounded, including Giffords.
