Stock Show Wraps Up Another Successful Year

DENVER (CBS4) - The National Western Stock Show wrapped up Sunday eveing for another year.

Organizers were pleased with attendance and now they are already preparing for an even bigger and better show next year.

On Sunday customers were cashing in on some last-minute deals.

"We saved about $21 on admissions; that's why we chose today," one Stock Show fan said.

"We have Fan Appreciation Day, which means all grounds admission has been reduced to only $8," said Paul Andrews, President and CEO of the National Western Stock Show.

Admission discounts, meal deals and free parking made the last day of the Stock Show its best.

"Just being a family with kids and stuff like that; anything we can do to save a little bit is great," another stock show fan said.

Attendance numbers crept towards a new record high.

"We certainly are going to go over the 600,000 mark," Andrews said. "It's going to be really tough. Last year was a great, great year, but we're optimistic. We're going to be darn close this year if we don't surpass it.

"Our venders have had great years. Our horse show rodeo has had strong attendance. Our live Stock Show is one of the top three or four of all time."

In pulling in more than $100 million in two weeks, the 107-year-old tradition is holding on to its sterling reputation.

"It will be darn close, nip and tuck, on whether we can beat last year's numbers, but either way we had a fantastic year and it's much appreciated," Andrews said.

This year's addition of free parking for the entire run of the Stock Show had such a positive response, Andrews says he plans on bringing it back next year and years to come.
