Construction Worker Dies While Trapped In Trench

DENVER (CBS4)- A construction worker died Wednesday morning after he became trapped in a trench about seven to nine feet deep.

The crew was working on a sewer line in the alley behind Grove Street between 42nd and 43rd Avenues in North Denver.

Emergency crews were called at 11:16 a.m. on reports that one of the workers was trapped and unconscious.

Firefighters were able to pull the man from the trench in about 10 minutes.

Firefighters said there was loose dirt in the hole and the worker was buried up to his waist. He did not survive despite rescue attempts.

Denver police homicide detectives are investigating the death. There were two construction workers at the scene at the time.

The man has not been identified although investigators have confirmed the man who died was an adult.
