Officers Honored With The Citizens Appreciate Police Award

DENVER (CBS4) - Nine Denver police officers were honored with a Mayoral Certificate of Appreciation.

The officers received the Citizens Appreciate Police (CAP) Award last year and were honored on Monday.

Three officers helped a child with cancer meet his hero Tim Tebow. Another helped a Virginia man with Alzheimer's who mistakenly took a bus to Denver. The officer made sure the man's case worker back east got him a plane ticket home.

"I think the very least that I can do is to make sure I show my support for the men and women who are doing that every single day and certainly acknowledge the organization CAP for what they do to go out of their way to acknowledge our officers," Chief Robert White said.

Nominations for the CAP Award most often come after citizens recommend an officer.
