Mother, Infant Sustain Serious Injuries After Getting Hit By Car On East Colfax

DENVER (CBS4) - A mother and her baby are in the hospital after being hit by a car while crossing a Denver street on Saturday.

The car hit them and then drove into a building at about 3:20 p.m. Parts of eastbound East Colfax Avenue had to be closed down near Yosemite for the investigation.

"It was horrible. At first we didn't know what happened," a witness said.

The woman was crossing the street with her 6-month-old baby in a stroller when they were hit. Police said both the woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. The baby suffered a broken leg and is expected to recover.

"When I came out from the back I saw a baby on the shoulder," a witness said. "I guess the lady got pinned."

Police said the driver of the car was also taken to an area hospital, but the person's condition hasn't been released.

Police indicated that the driver of the car may have been suffering from a medical condition. The drive was cited for careless driving resulting in injury.
