Police Search For Woman Who May Have Attempted To Leave Baby

NORTHGLENN, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Northglenn are searching for a woman who may have tried to leave a baby on a stranger's doorstep.

Police were called to the 9800 block of Bruce Lane after a woman called police about a suspicious incident.

The woman told officers that at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday she heard a noise at her front door and when she looked outside to investigate she noticed an Hispanic woman, unknown to her, walking away from her house toward the street.

When the woman opened her door she found an infant, about four months old, in a car seat carrier on the front porch.

The infant had what appeared to be an oxygen tube running from its nose to a portable oxygen bottle.

"She called to the woman, asked her to come back. The lady came back, picked up the carrier, said she thought it was her nanny's home and she walked away," Cmdr. Beth Carmosino with the Northglenn Police Department said.

The woman then quickly turned around, returned to the vehicle and drove away with the baby.

The woman said she yelled for her to return but was ignored.

It's not clear if the woman was the baby's mother, but police say it appeared she wanted to abandon the baby on a stranger's front door.

"We think that whoever the woman was lives in the area, maybe the Northglenn, Thornton, Westminster, Federal Heights area," Carmosino said.

Police have been canvassing the area. The concern is for the baby boy, estimated to be about 4 to 6 months old.

"The woman described the infant as having an oxygen hose to the nose with an oxygen tank, and it looked like it had some kind of nasal congestion; may not have been in good health," Carmosino said.

The suspect is described as an Hispanic woman in her 20s, about 5-foot-4, 170 pounds with brown hair and wearing a grey sweater.

The woman also appeared unkempt with some type of reddening on her chin, possibly from an injury.

The woman's vehicle is described as a 1990s gold-colored 4-door sedan. The infant's car seat carrier is blue and grey.

Anyone with information about the woman or the infant is asked to call Northglenn Police Det. Terrie Hoodak at 303-450-8893 x 8858.
