Rescue Crews Save Dog From Partially Frozen Pond

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Crews rushed in to rescue a dog from a partially frozen pond in Summit County on Tuesday.

The Vargas family from Frisco was on its way back from a hike when their Jack Russell terrier named Jonah got off the leash and ran out onto the pond.

"He was running around and all of a sudden he just froze," Rod Vargas said. "I think he looked down and realized where he was."

The family called 911 instead of trying to rescue the dog themselves.

Rescue crews used a long log to help coax Jonah towards them and then carefully slid the dog and the rescuer both safely to shore.

"We told all our friends. It was so touching what they did," Vargas said. "I know for them it was probably something they deal with daily, but for us it was a big deal."
