Burglar Uses Vehicle To Smash Into Pro-Life Pregnancy Center

LAFAYETTE, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators are trying to find out why anyone would drive a car into a building just for diapers and other baby products.

A vehicle crashed through the front of the Real Choices Pregnancy Center in Lafayette Sunday night. Police have not released a description of the car

The pregnancy center is struggling to keep its doors open. The door frame metal is now mangled and broken away and glass was shattered.

"They just took the whole front; bashed out all the glass," center director Janna DiGiacomo Maxwell said. "The real burden is the destruction of it. We're fighting like crazy just to keep our doors open for Boulder County … we help so many people. We help anyone that walks through our door."

That's the irony to DiGiacomo Maxwell. She could have helped as the pro-life ministry does daily supporting of mothers of unexpected pregnancies. She says the burglar made away with valuable items her clients need.

"We're not sure what they were after but they took size five diapers and wipes," she said. "That was a little painful."

They also took a safe loaded with grocery cards -- gifts that would have been given to expecting mothers.

"With Christmas coming up, that would be a part of their Christmas gifts too," DiGiacomo Maxwell said. "This is going to be a real distraction at a time of year that is supposed to be joyous."

Real Choices is 100-percent funded from private donations. They are hoping to recoup the monetary loss of items for the holiday. To make a donation, visit the Real Choices Pregnancy Center website.
