Colorado Springs Girl Handcuffed After Bringing Pot To School

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Sheriff's officials say a 10-year-old Colorado Springs girl was escorted from her school in handcuffs after she showed fellow students marijuana she had brought to school.

El Paso County sheriff's officials say the Evans International Elementary School student got the pot from a relative with a medical marijuana card.

Falcon School District 49 spokeswoman Stephanie Wurtz tells The Gazette the school discovered the marijuana Tuesday morning. Sheriff's deputies escorted the girl from school in handcuffs in the afternoon, and she was later released to a parent.

The district's policy is to expel students who are found with drugs or alcohol.

The girl's father told KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs that she has been expelled from school. She faces marijuana-related charges.
