New District Attorney Can Review Holmes Case

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - The judge overseeing the case of accused theater shooting suspect James Holmes has approved a request from prosecutors to discuss the case with the new district attorney.

In a motion filed Friday, prosecutors said it is important to inform district attorney-elect George Brauchler of events in the case so that he can prepare for Holmes' preliminary hearing.

The weeklong hearing to determine if Holmes will stand trial begins Jan. 7. Brauchler takes office the following day.

The Republican was elected to replace the term-limited Carol Chambers as the 18th Judicial District Attorney last week.

Prosecutors said the former military prosecutor has agreed to be bound by the case's gag order.

In other filings, prosecutors said they wouldn't object to media requests to release some documents but defense attorneys objected.
