Lakewood Bridal Shop Gives Away Free Gowns To Veterans

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - On Sunday Lakewood bridal shop paid special tribute to veterans by giving away free wedding gowns.

Brides-to-be were already lined up even before the shop opened on Veterans Day. They braved the cold hoping for a chance to get a free wedding dress from d'Anelli Bridal.

"I've been out here since 8 a.m.," one woman said.

"I want to be one of the first ones in the door to get a good dress," another woman said.

They aren't just any brides, however. They're military brides in search of a gown for their special day.

The brides were let into the store eight at a time and given 30 minutes to search through the racks and find their perfect wedding dress. The first 20 received the dress free of charge.

For store owner Sandi Schreivogel it's an emotional experience year after year.

"Everyone in here gets very emotional. They start crying, we start crying. It's just an emotional and happy day for all of us," Schreivogel said.

It's her way of giving back to those that have served the country. Schreivogel knows exactly what the women are going through.

"I am a widow of a person who was killed in Vietnam. It brings back a lot of memories of when I got married and the hassle of it and the little money that you have," she said.

Schreivogel will continue to give back every Veterans Day hoping to touch the life of those who gave theirs for her.

d'Anelli Bridal is part of the organization Brides Across America. The group helps military brides nationwide find free wedding gowns.
