Police Search For Puppy Bandit

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Deputies in Arapahoe County are searching for a man who broke into the Aquatic Dog pet store and stole three puppies inside.

"You have to love them a lot," said pet shop owner Sheila Vanderveer. "They stole two little sister bugs, Boston Terrier - Pug cross, and a little Yorkie."

Vanderveer is worried about the pups because she said they need extra care.

"If they're not fed properly they might go into hypoglycemic shock," said Vanderveer. "Low blood sugar."

The puppy napping is all caught on surveillance tape which shows the thief breaking into the pet shop through a window Monday night, then running over to a bin and stuffing the puppies into his knapsack one by one by one.

One puppy wasn't nabbed because he cowered in the corner so the thief couldn't reach him.

"She was the one who was hiding in the corner, she was so scared," said Vanderveer.

There is more surveillance video from the shop next door which shows a much clearer and closer view of the dog napper just before he breaks into the pet shop.

The animals are valued at nearly $3,000 but their real value is far greater.

"We do love our puppies," said Vanderveer.

The owners said the thief was in the store on Monday afternoon looking at the puppies. All that was caught on tape.
