Holly Square Gets A Makeover

DENVER (CBS4)- A major transformation in one Denver neighborhood is closer to completion this week. The Holly Square Shopping Center is getting a new look after it was destroyed four years ago.

Gang Members burned down the Park Hill shopping center. A new community center is being built in its place.

The Anschutz Family Foundation donated $5 million to build the new facility.

On Wednesday, developers and members of the community gathered for the center's groundbreaking ceremony.

The Boys and Girls Club will set up programs as a way to keep violence out of the neighborhood.

"This area has long been under served and we believe the future of our great city and state depend on growing kids in the right way," said Anschutz Foundation spokesman Ted Harms.

The community center should be ready to open in nine months.
