Tequila's Restaurant In Golden Damaged By Fire

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - An early morning fire destroyed a restaurant in Golden on Sunday.

The fire happened just before 1:30 a.m. at Tequila's restaurant on South Golden Road. It was so dangerous firefighters couldn't go inside. They had to cut through walls to reach the flames. It took several hours to knock the fire down.

The building is now all boarded up and fenced in. Customers showed up Sunday while a CBS4 photographer was there talking with owner Rodrigo Sanchez. He said getting the call was tough.

"I cried a lot because this was the first restaurant we opened years ago," Sanchez said. "I worked too much to build a business ... and I remember everything we did when we first started. I cried a lot. It hurts really bad."

The Tequila's restaurant employees 19 people. Sanchez says they will be paid while the building is being repaired.

So far there's no word on what caused the fire.
