Coroner: Colorado Corrections Officer Was Killed With Kitchen Knife
ORDWAY, Colo. (CBS4) - The female corrections officer killed at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility in Ordway last week was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife.
Sgt. Mary Ricard was killed on Sept. 24 with a single stab wound to the neck while breakfast was being prepared, according to the Crowley County coroner.
An inmate, Miguel Contreras-Perez, has been named as a person of interest but has not yet been charged.
Another officer at the prison, Sgt. Lori Gann, was seriously injured in the attack.
Contreras-Perez is serving 35 years to life for kidnapping and sexual assault.
