Police Worried About More Possible Sexual Assault Victims

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) - A babysitter has been accused of sexually assaulting the child he was watching and now police are worried there may be more victims.

Leslie VanCleave, 62, is in custody on a $50,000 bond. He was arrested at his home in Littleton near the 8200 block of South Santa Fe near County Line Road.

VanCleave also worked at a day care. That day care was an in-home day care called Bradley Day School. Some people who know him say he ran it with his mother. That's why police want to get his picture out to the public.

VanCleave is accused of sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl. Littleton police say he was babysitting the victim and the assault happened in his home.

One neighbor told CBS4's Suzanne McCarrol' there was something off about VanCleave.

"I talked to him one time and he said he'd been hit by lightening three different times," she said. "And he was in the CIA or something like that."

But another woman, who said she had been casually seeing VanCleave, stood by him.

"He is the greatest guy I've ever met," she said. "I broke my arm and he was nice enough to come to my door and asked me if there was anything he could do to help. Now that's not a guy who sexually molests children."

She did admit that he had been watching several kids, but said he had taken care of them for years and didn't charge their families.

"I like him because he's honest, he's upfront. He loves people, he's got a good heart. I can't think of a bad thing to say about him."

Any with more information on the case or possible victims is asked to call Littleton police.
