Pottery Lovers Will Want To Check Out 'Clay & Cocktails'

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - Ceramic art lovers have the perfect excuse to play with mud this weekend! The Arvada Ceramic Arts Guild is hosting program called Clay & Cocktails.

The events take place on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday at the Guild at 5870 Olde Wadsworth Blvd., and there's something for both beginners and experts.

Guild member Dale Atchison, a self-taught potter, is also a CBS4 photographer. On Friday he showed Justin McHeffey of the CBS4 Morning News some of the methods of working with clay.

In the video clip below, he shows how to throw pots on the wheel -- how to center and pull up a pot.

He also showed McHeffey how the process of Raku pottery works (Warning: It's burning hot):

Clay & Cocktails includes a wine tasting Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m., a beer tasting Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and an open house Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
