Boy Drowns At Aurora Apartment Complex

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Aurora are investigating the death of a young boy who drowned in a pond at an apartment complex.

The incident happened at about 9:15 p.m. on Friday at the Promenade at Towne Center on South Sable Boulevard. Police said the 28-month-old boy had been dropped off at a babysitter's apartment with a younger sibling so the mother could go to work.

The pond has a fountain and is often visited by ducks and some neighbors have concerns that it is an attraction for children in the complex who don't know how to swim.

"Every day they are outside playing over here and in this area. Kids are bending over with their toys and stuff -- playing in the water," Adrienne Whitfield said.

"So hopefully they do something about it and not take forever to fix the problem because this is really devastating for a lot of people in this neighborhood."

So far the name of the boy has not been released, but children in the area referred to him as "Little Man."

Aurora police's crimes against children unit is working on the case and so far there's no word on if there might be charges in the case.
