1 Killed In Rock Slide On Hagerman Peak

ASPEN, Colo. (CBS4) - One climber is dead after he and four others were caught in a rock slide at nearly 13,000 on Saturday.

The slide happened at about 3 p.m. on Hagerman Peak southwest of Aspen. The group of five was climbing the mountain when rocks gave way beneath them.

The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office received a call about two people being injured in the rock slide. The three others in the party weren't injured.

"One person was reported to have sustained serious chest injuries, and the other with injuries to an ankle," Deputy Renee Rayton said in a statement.

The person with chest injuries died at the scene. The other person was airlifted to Aspen Valley Hospital and is expected to recover.
