Casey Anthony's Attorney To Represent Aurora Shooting Victim's Mother

DENVER (AP) - An attorney who represented Casey Anthony, the Florida woman acquitted in the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee last year, has been retained by the mother of one of the victims of last month's theater shooting in Aurora.

Publicist Michael Wright said Monday that Jose Baez is investigating a possible civil lawsuit over responsibility for the shootings, including security measures at the theater. Baez is representing Shirley Wygal, mother of Rebecca Wingo, who died in the shootings.

A spokesman for the theater did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

James Holmes is accused of going on a shooting rampage on July 20 at the midnight showing of the new Batman movie in suburban Denver that left 12 dead and 58 people injured.

Baez had been a relatively obscure Florida attorney until the Casey Anthony case turned him into one of the most recognizable attorneys in the country.

He took Anthony's case pro bono in 2008, after he got a referral from a former client who shared a cell with Anthony after her initial arrest.

He wrote a book on the case, "Presumed Guilty, Casey Anthony: The Inside Story," which was released in July.

Baez said in February he no longer represents Casey Anthony and was attending to the needs of other clients.

He also has been giving speeches and offering television commentary.
