Escaped Inmate In Greeley Turned Gun On Himself
GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)— Authorities say an armed inmate that escaped from Weld County sheriff's deputies after he was taken to the emergency room of North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, has taken his own life.
Hospital spokesman Gene Haffner says the inmate left the building after the Friday afternoon escape.
Deputies were searching the surrounding area before the inmate reportedly turned the gun on himself.
It's not clear what kind of weapon the inmate had. Sheriff's spokesman Tim Schwartz says he doesn't yet know where the inmate got the weapon.
Haffner says no one at the hospital was injured in the escape.
The hospital went on lockdown at 3 p.m., meaning restrictions are in place on entering and leaving the building.
Haffner says privacy rules prevent him from disclosing what medical condition prompted deputies to take the inmate to the hospital.
