DENVER (CBS4)- Denver is set to host the third annual Sports Authority Rock 'n' Roll Denver Marathon & ½ Marathon in September. Wednesday is National Running Day and runners who register for the event today can get a discount.

Runners who sign up for the Rock 'n Roll Marathon on National Running Day can save $20. This year's marathon is Sept. 22.

Olympic marathoner Alan Culpepper talked about the discount and designing this year's course on CBS4 This Morning.

"I'm very fortunate to be a part of the Rock 'n Roll Marathon series designing six of our marathon events around the country and one of them is Denver. Being a Denver resident and a person who has lived in Colorado for 20 years, I'm really excited to be at that level of event," said Culpepper.

About 16,000 runners are expected for this year's race. It starts in Civic Center Park and goes through Washington Park, City Park and Cheesman Park.

This year a new charity is benefiting from the run. The marathon will benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Athletes for a Cure.

"Not that there is anything wrong with having a personal goal but to do it also for something above and beyond yourself can be extremely satisfying," said Culpepper.

"It's amazing if you have something to train for, that you are so much more motivated," said Culpepper.
