Argument Over DNA Testing In Hammer Attack Case
WASHINGTON (AP) - Lawyers are arguing over DNA testing in the case of a District of Columbia man charged with killing a tourist from Colorado and assaulting two others.
A lawyer for Michael Davis is objecting to prosecutors' efforts to analyze DNA evidence, saying she can't consult with her client because he's been declared incompetent for trial.
Prosecutors asked the lawyer, Dana Page, whether she preferred evidence to be tested by the D.C. police department or at an independent laboratory. They said they'd proceed with testing at the police lab unless they received a response by Tuesday.
Davis is the brother of NFL football players Vernon and Vontae Davis. He's charged in the April killing of Gary Dederichs and with assaulting two others in what authorities have called random and unprovoked attacks.
