130 Gather For Colorado Truck Driving Challenge

DENVER (AP) -- More than 130 truck drivers are gathering in the Denver area for the 48th annual Colorado Truck Driving Championships.

The winner Saturday will earn the right to compete at the National Truck Driving Championships.

Drivers will be scored on a written exam concerning rules of trucking, a pre-trip inspection in which they will have to detect defects that contest organizers have planted on a truck, and how well they handle a driving-skills course.

The Colorado event is being held at the Adams County fairgrounds. The contest is hosted by the Colorado Motor Carriers Association and its safety management council.

The association says the Colorado contestants have driven a collective 90 million accident-free miles.
