Farm Blamed For Deadly Listeria Outbreak Files For Bankruptcy
HOLLY, Colo. (CBS4) - Jensen Farms has filed for bankruptcy. The company had been at the center of a deadly listeria outbreak last year involving cantaloupe.
The Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection should free up millions of dollars that could be distributed to victims. Court documents show the farm had nearly $5 million in revenue in the past year.
The listeria outbreak is blamed for 32 deaths and 146 people became sick in 28 states.
Federal investigators have said old, hard-to-clean equipment at Jensen Farms and pools of dirty water on the floor probably were to blame.
