Motorcycle Rider Struggling To Walk After Hit & Run

DENVER (CBS4) - The victim of a hit-and-run near Coors Field earlier this month is struggling to learn how to walk again, and police say they are closing in on a person of interest in the case.

Greg Golden was seriously injured May 2 when he was hit on his motorcycle near the intersection of 20th and Little Raven.

"I heard screetching tires, looked in my rearview mirror, and saw the lights coming at me," Golden said. "All I remember thinking is 'He's not going to stop.'"

A truck slammed into Golden's bike and pushed it into another car.

"I crushed the l2 vertebrate, and I have compression fractures in other vertebrae," said Golden, who is using a walker to get around.

Golden's wife Mandy says she was crushed when she got the call about the crash.

"I remember thinking that my world just came to an end and my husband was dead," she said.

Mandy has left work to help her husband with his recovery, and the couple is without any income right now.

"I can only walk to the end of the block and I get really exhausted," Golden said.

Police say they have found the vehicle that hit Golden's motorcycle and they said they hope to file charges in the case soon.

"I can't even imagine doing that to someone and just leaving," Golden said. "I would ask him to turn himself in, do the right thing and try and stop the cycle of people doing things like that."

"I don't know how you hit somebody and leave them in the street like that," Mandy said. "Had he stayed it would have been different. But he left so he has no idea what he did to us."

The Goldens say insurance might cover about 80 percent of their medical bills, but they will still likely owe more than $100,000.

On June 3 they are hosting a benefit dinner and silent auction at a restaurant in Brighton to help with the bills.
