Denver Schools Investigating 2011 CSAP Results
DENVER (AP/CBS4) - Denver Public Schools is asking for an independent review of how certain schools in the district handled statewide tests last year.
The district said Tuesday that the Colorado Attorney General's Office will conduct the investigation with help from a national firm.
Superintendent Tom Boasberg says district officials analyzed students' scores on the 2011 Colorado Statewide Assessment Program for significant inconsistencies or statistically unusual results. To ensure scores were accurate, they reviewed items including whether students' scores varied significantly between multiple-choice and written tests, as well as wrong answers that were erased and changed to right answers.
Boasberg says two of the district's 162 schools had statistical concerns, prompting the request for an investigation. The schools have been identified as Beach Court Elementary and Hallett Fundamental Academy. The trade website EdNewsColorado.org reports that the principals at both schools are on administrative leave.
Boasberg says there is no finding yet of any wrongdoing.
