DENVER (CBS4) – If you are someone who is discouraged in your job hunt, take note. Employers in five industries in Colorado say they can’t find enough people to hire.
Some that require college degrees, and others don’t. All come with paid vacations and health benefits.
The industries are:
Patrick McCaslin has been a trucker for two years and says no matter what the economy is like he can always find work.
“It’s kind of like being on vacation but someone else is footing the bill,” he said.
Greg Liu of Knight Transportation says he can’t find enough drivers. He says he will help train people interested in being drivers. And many companies will pay for driving school for good candidates. alaries start at about $50,000 year, with some drivers earning more than $100,000.
Many truckers CBS4 interviewed say they had daytime desk jobs before they started driving for a living. And many say they like their current job a lot better.

At A & L Machining, supervisors will train job candidates who are interested in being machinists.
“Most of my guys can work unlimited overtime and make $70,000 to $80,000,” said company spokesman Allen Dvoracek.

Accountants keep track of numbers, but the number of accountants is well below the number needed.
Angela Roberts recruits accountants for employers. She says some companies will pay college graduates to go back and get a masters degree in accounting. The jobs often pay more than $55,000 for entry-level positions.
“Currently we have over 1000 jobs in Colorado at the staff accounting level,” she said.
Accountants are no longer mere number crunchers.
“Today accountants do so much more, from budgeting to policies,” she said.

The leisure and travel industry is also hiring in entry level positions, all the way up to management.
“We take folks at all levels, from a training standpoint,” said Greg Leonard, a manager at the Grand Hyatt Denver. “We certainly hire people that have the raw talent of personality.”
Hotel chains like the Hyatt like to promote people from within, so Leonard says you can make a career with one company.
Executive assistants are in constant demand across the country, earning an average of $30,000 to $70,000 a year.
Kati Stenger is an executive assistant for a financial planning group in Denver. She’s getting ready for a work trip to Dubai.
“Attention to detail is key and — as anyone will tell you — the ability to multi-task,” she said.
