Occupy Denver Protesters Camp Out On City Streets

DENVER (CBS4)- Occupy Denver protesters took to the streets and camped out overnight to protest the proposed ban on overnight camping in the city.

After the march Tuesday night, the demonstrators headed back to the 16th Street Mall to spend the night.

About 50 of the Occupy protesters slept on the mall with the homeless to show their opposition to the ban.

At least one homeless man said the gesture is appreciated, "I think psychologically they're thinking, I'm doing this because I think it's wrong to pass a law like this because if they do that, what are they going to take next? If you can't be down on your luck without getting in trouble for it, I mean, it's punishment enough to be homeless, come on."

The City of Denver gave preliminary approval to the ban this week. A final vote could come in the next few weeks.
