CDOT Honors Law Enforcement For Dedication To Traffic Safety

DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado Department of Transportation announced Wednesday they are recognizing Colorado law enforcement agencies and individual officers for their outstanding dedication to traffic safety in 2011.

Glenn Davis, manager of impaired driving programs at CDOT, said in a statement that law enforcement officers, troopers and deputies who enforce traffic safety laws are often over looked.

"It is CDOT's privilege to be able to honor them for their hard work, which is truly making an impact on reducing serious injuries crashes and needless deaths on our highways," Davis said.

CDOT said the "Heat Is On" campaign against drinking and driving and the "Click It Or Ticket" campaign for seat belt use are having an impact on the number of traffic fatalities in the state.

Fatalities declined to a record low in 2011, with 446 deaths.

Awards were handed out Wednesday at a ceremony in Denver. Awards were given to law enforcement agencies in Southern Colorado on April 11 in Alamosa, and in Grand Junction on April 18.
