Historic Central City First Bank Building On The Auction Block

CENTRAL CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- A piece of Colorado history will be on the auction block, up for sale to anyone who wants to place a bid.

The historic First Bank Building in Central City will go up for auction Saturday at 1 p.m.

It was built in 1874 and over the past 137 years the building has been home to many businesses. Some believe it was a bordello at one time other believe it was offices for a judge.

Twenty years ago it faced a significant remodel as it became a casino.

"In '92 when gambling came in someone bought it and spent $6.3 million refurbishing the building," said Pacific Auctions spokesman OJ Pratt. "It's licenses for 250 machines."

It's also a bed and breakfast.

"This is the Baby Doe room as they called it," said Pratt as he took a tour of the building. "A lot of history up here for certain."

Staff working for a popular reality TV show about ghost hunting spent some time exploring the building.

"That's a controversy we can't answer but they say it's one of the 10 most haunted buildings in the country," said Pratt.

Not only the building is for sale. Several prized antiques will also be available to the highest bidder.

"One of the great things about a no reserve auction is that you know you're only paying one more bid than the person before. So we're not just selling the antiques we're selling the real estate too," said Pratt.
