Mega Millions Fever Hits Denver

DENVER (CBS4)- People were lining up Friday before the drawing for the biggest jackpot in lottery history.

The Mega Millions jackpot has reached $640 million. Lotto officials said the world-record prize increased nearly $100 million since yesterday because so many people bought tickets.

Many people took part in office pools.

"There's several of us that we each put in two dollars and some people aren't in the office. We left those others behind," said one Mega Millions ticket buyer.

But the odds aren't good, one in 175 million of having the winning combination.

Here's another way to look at it: if you buy 50 tickets a week, you'll win the jackpot once every 68,000 years. There's a better chance of becoming a movie star, having identical quadruplets or shooting a hole in one.

But some aren't deterred by those odds.

"I mean, you know, its free money... if you win you win. You can't win if you can't play," said one Mega Millions ticket buyer.
