2 Colorado Doctors Face Pot Recommendation Charges

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Two Larimer County doctors are accused of making illegal medical marijuana recommendations.

Authorities say that 73-year-old Dr. Dallas Williams of Milliken and 63-year-old Dr. Joseph Montante of Longmont face criminal charges after allegedly writing medical marijuana recommendations for undercover officers who didn't have medical conditions needed under Colorado law to legally use pot.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests Friday. The doctors face felony charges of writing improper recommendations.

Doctors in Colorado are required to have a "bona fide" relationship with patients before recommending marijuana. Authorities say Williams and Montante wrote pot recommendations for undercover officers after the officers stated they had no debilitating medical conditions.

Williams and Montante are both free on bond.
