Denver Auto Show Could Help Drivers, Job Seekers
DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver Auto Show is revving up for another joy ride in the Mile High City. This year it's doing more than just helping drivers find new rides, the show could also help those looking for a job.
The Automotive Career Fair is located in between all the hybrids and hot rods at the Colorado Convention Center. Job seekers are encouraged to bring their resume for potential employers.
"We're looking to hire 30 people for all four of our dealerships," said a spokeswoman for a local Honda dealer.
Some popular job openings in the auto industry include sales and technicians.
"I can assure them the job opportunities are there if they are qualified and they take the time to go through the schooling and the factory training," said the spokesman for Jeep.
New car and truck registrations were up nearly 16 percent last year over 2010. In January, they were up nearly 11 percent over Jan. 2011. Part of the reason, people are looking to upgrade.
"They've held onto their cars a lot longer than they used to so there's some demand in the fact that their vehicles are getting more miles on them and they might not want to invest in that high cost repair," said a spokeswoman for one local auto dealer.
The Denver Auto Show continues at the Colorado Convention Center through Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 6-12. Kids 6 and under are free.
