Funeral Tuesday For Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

DENVER (AP) -- Gov. John Hickenlooper has ordered flags on public buildings statewide be lowered to half-staff Tuesday in honor of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jordan L. Bear, who was killed in an attack on his base in Afghanistan.

Bear's funeral will be held Tuesday at the All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Denver.

The 25-year-old was one of two soldiers killed in the attack March 1.

U.S. and Afghan officials say Bear and 19-year-old Pfc. Payton A. Jones, of Marble Falls, Texas, were killed on a joint U.S.-Afghan base by two Afghan soldiers and an Afghan civilian literacy instructor.

They were assigned to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, N.C.
