New Belgium's New Canning Line Allows More Variety

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins is growing once again.

The craft brewer says its new $8 million, 16,000 square foot canning line is up and running.

Its old system could fill 60 cans each minute. The new system can handle six times as many. It also allows New Belgium to produce 16-ounce cans for the first time and offer more variety.

"It allows us to expand our line of canned beers. We're doing Fat Tire, we've been doing Sunshine Wheat and Ranger," Bryan Simpson with New Belgium said. "Now we've introduced a new beer, Shift, which is a pale lager. It's coming out in a week and a half."

New Belgium first started putting its beer in cans in 2008 and demand has grown steadily since then.
