Englewood Officers On Leave After Fatal Shooting
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Englewood police are expected to release more information Friday about a man who was shot and killed by police on Thursday night.
The shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. outside a Walgreens at Broadway and Dartmouth in Englewood.
A call first came in to authorities about a stolen car at about 4:30 p.m.
Police tracked down the car and arrested two men.
A few hours later police say an associate of the men who were arrested came to the scene. He was in a Ford Mustang.
Police say he began threatening police.
Officers apparently saw that he had a weapon and refused to obey officers' orders.
He then backed up quickly, almost hitting police. That's when they began firing.
"I heard the officers hollering at a gentlemen. They told him to stop and get out of the car. Next thing I know I see them shooting," said witness Lonnie Eastwood.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice after a fatal shooting.
