Accused Teacher, Coach Resigns From Basalt High

BASALT, Colo. (AP) -- A Basalt High School teacher accused of having sexual relations with a male student has submitted her resignation letter.

Superintendent Judy Haptonstall says Lauren Redfern resigned Wednesday. Haptonstall had recommended to the school board that Redfern be dismissed.

Redfern faces a charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, with a pattern of abuse. She is free after posting $5,000 bond.

She taught health at Basalt High School and coached the girls basketball team.
