Thieves Target Medical Marijuana Dispensary In Smash & Grab

LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4)- Thieves target a medical marijuana dispensary in what police believe was supposed to be a quick smash and grab. Now, police want help catching those responsible.

It happened just before 3 a.m. Jan. 23 at the Cannamart dispensary on Arapahoe Road in Littleton.

Security cameras captured the entire event beginning with the Toyota Tundra smashing into the front doors of the dispensary. In the video the driver doesn't stop there, but backs up and smashes into the doors again.

"I found out the next day. One of the workers here called me and told me what happened," said Cannamart employee Michael Kaspin.

Kaspin works at the dispensary's reception desk.

"I've seen it on TV, other dispensaries but from what I've seen they weren't as secure as this place is," said Kaspin.

The video shows two suspects, dressed in black shoes, gloves, hoodies and masks, enter through the broken front doors. Once inside they couldn't get any further and ran off as the alarm sounded.

"The crooks smashed their way right into the lobby but they made one major mistake. There's a second door to get into but the only way they're getting in here is if they are buzzed in or have a key," said Kaspin.

He believes the suspects hadn't done their homework before attempting the smash and grab.

"If anyone has been here they know how well our place is secured," said Kaspin.

The dispensary owner has hired a full time armed security guard to keep watch of the shop overnight.

Police are searching for the Toyota Tundra with front end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call police in Littleton.
