Dobson Endorses Santorum For GOP Nomination

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Conservative Christian broadcaster James Dobson has endorsed Rick Santorum for the Republican nomination for president.

Dobson endorsed Santorum on Thursday, two days before the South Carolina primary.

Dobson cited Santorum's support for what Dobson calls "the institution of the family." Dobson also praised Santorum's knowledge of international politics, especially Israel and the Middle East.

Dobson says other GOP candidates are worthy of support but calls Santorum "the man of the hour."

Dobson, who lives in Colorado Springs, founded the Focus on the Family ministry in 1977 and began a radio show by the same name that year. He stepped down from the leadership at Focus in 2009 and left the show in 2010.

He now cohosts the "Family Talk" radio show.
