Aurora Police Help Parents Properly Install Child Safety Seats

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - On Sunday Aurora police officers were checking to make sure that parents and caregivers had their child safety seats installed properly.

Although one mother of two children did have her safety seats installed properly, one of the seats was 9 years old. That's way past the 5-year recommended period. After 5 years the plastic starts to break down and cannot properly protect children from injury in a crash.

It was the first child safety seat inspection by the Aurora Police Department. They plan to have at least one free checkpoint every month over the next several months.

Officers took a 40-hour course to learn about proper child safety seat installation.
