Lawmakers Cheer On Broncos During Governor's Speech

DENVER (CBS4) - During his State of the State speech before the state Legislature on Thursday morning Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper couldn't help cheering on the home team.

"Please indulge me a moment as I use 15 words to talk a little football," Hickenlooper said in the middle of his speech. "Good luck to the resilient Denver Broncos. Beat those New England Patriots on Saturday night!"

The governor smiled when he said that the 15 words were "in honor of Tim Tebow," whose jersey number is 15.

Hickenlooper laughed as the battle cry drew a standing ovation from lawmakers, many who apparently knew the statement was coming and appropriately waved orange Broncos rally towels.

Thousands of fans waved those same towels on Sunday during the Broncos playoff matchup with the Steelers in Denver.

The game ended in dramatic fashion on the first play of overtime with Tebow's touchdown pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
