Denver Sheriff Suspends Top Administrator, 3 Deputies

Written by Brian Maass
DENVER (CBS4)- A CBS4 Investigation has learned that the Denver Sheriff's Department has placed a high ranking administrator- Division Chief Phil Deeds- and three other deputies on paid "investigatory leave."

"I can't speak about them in detail," said Director of Corrections Gary Wilson when contacted by CBS4 Friday.

"We have investigations ongoing," said Wilson, who declined to offer any other specifics about the investigation or the reason for the suspensions.

Division Chief Deeds oversees the Denver Detention Center and is one of just three Division Chiefs within the Sheriff's Department. Wilson placed Deeds on leave this week and on January 3, sent out a standard notice banning Deeds from any sheriff department facilities.

"I don't have any comment," said Deeds, when reached at his home Friday by CBS4. He referred further questions to his attorney.

Also placed on leave were Deputy Sheriff William Currat who is assigned to the court services division, Deputy Tyler Mazotti who is assigned to the Denver Detention Center and Deputy Sheriff Carla Tatum who is attached to the court services division.

"I have no comment," said Mazotti.

Donald Sisson, an attorney representing Deputy Currat, said, "We have no comment at this point."

CBS4 was unable to contact Deputy Tatum.
