Cattle On Streets Of Denver Opens Stock Show

DENVER (AP/CBS4) -- It's a sure bet that the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo is about to open when Texas Longhorn cattle are being driven through downtown Denver.

Thursday's parade opening the 106th National Western got extra attention this year from city officials. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock named Thursday "Dress Western Day" and encouraged residents to see the cattle drive and parade.

Denver is trying to boost excitement for the event after the stock show last year considered moving to neighboring Aurora in search of more room. Aurora officials later said they would not seek the stock show.

The show runs through Jan. 22.
