Man Locked Out Of Hotel Room On New Year's Charged With Assault

DENVER (CBS4)- A man locked out of his room on New Year's Day at a Denver hotel has been charged with assault.

Shawn Forbes is charged with second degree assault causing serious bodily injury after he allegedly became involved in an altercation. The charge alleges that it happened sometime between 2:30 and 3 a.m. at the Marriott Tech Center.

Police said Forbes, 24, punched the victim in the face causing him to fall and suffer a head injury.

Forbes remains in custody on a $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6 to be formally advised of the charge.

A malfunction left several guests locked out of their room at the Marriott Tech Center last weekend.

The keys stopped working sometime after midnight Saturday and hundreds waited for hours in the early morning hours Sunday hoping to get back into rooms. There had been a party at the hotel Saturday night with music and drinks that was billed as being one of the biggest in the city.

Some guests said there were multiple fights, and that the blood that could be seen in the lobby on Sunday was a result of one of them.

The hotel wrote a note to guests saying that its software crashed. Workers aren't yet sure if the switchover to a new calendar year had anything to do with it. The guests were refunded for their rooms.

"We tried to get into our room and could not," said Claude Moody, who spent several hours locked out of his room. "But one of our friends had a guest in the room next to him climb out the balcony on the atrium side and scale over to the other side, go in the room and open the door to let them in, so we hung out there for a while."
