RTD Approves New Hotel At Union Station

DENVER (CBS4) - Train station transformation is in the future for Denver's Union Station.

The Regional Transportation District Board of Directors voted to turn the historic train station into a hotel.

The losing option was a restaurant concept with office space and a market. The board decided the hotel option will bring in more revenue, tax dollars and jobs.

Negotiations will now move forward and the public can weigh in during forums.

"This is obviously and important building in our city. It's iconic and historic, it's really the crown jewel of our city so it's going to be important that we engage the public and get their input," Sage Hospitality CEO and President Walter Isenber said.

Union Station will also be Amtrak's main hub.

The hotel is slated to open in the spring of 2014.
