Bond Increased For Royal 'Scoop' Daniel

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- The bond amount in the Royal Scoop Daniel felony theft case was increased Friday to $500,000. The judge also issued a gag order in the case.

The prominent attorney went missing four years ago, and it's believed he took more than $500,000 with him. He was captured by border patrol agents in San Diego on Dec. 7.

Bond was originally set at $150,000.

Daniel is charged with felony theft which is punishable by up to 12 years in jail and up to a $750,000 fine. He is also charged with commercial bribery which carries a penalty of up to one-and-a-half years in jail and up to a $100,000 fine.

More of the people Daniel allegedly took money from have come forward since Daniel was caught. That means more charges could be filed in the case.

Daniel was disbarred in 2008, a few months after criminal charges were filed against him.

Daniel is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 19 when he will be advised of the charges against him and a date will be set for a preliminary hearing.
