EDGEWATER, Colo. (CBS4) – Police have arrested the estranged husband of an Edgewater woman as well as two others eight years after the woman was found murdered.

Jefferson County officials revealed Wednesday that a grand jury indicted the three people on murder charges on Dec. 9 in the 2003 murder of Heather DeWild. The grand jury said not only did the trio kill Heather DeWild, they worked together to cover it up.

DeWild was 30 when she was reported missing in the middle of the summer after she went to her estranged husband Daniel DeWild’s home at 2031 Fenton in Edgewater. Her decomposed body was discovered about 6 weeks later in a shallow grave off Highway 6.

On Wednesday morning police arrested Daniel DeWild, 39, David DeWild, 39, and Roseanne DeWild, 50. Daniel DeWild was married to Heather but lived with David, his his twin brother, and Roseanne — Daniel’s girlfriend then and now his wife — at the time of the disappearance. The couple was scheduled to have their final divorce hearing the week after.

Police said DeWild’s neck and wrist were tied up and her body was wrapped in trash bags.

Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey said in a prepared statement that he was pleased that the grand jury returned the indictment in the case.

“Solving this homicide has been my priority since I took office in 2005. The investigation has been a long time coming, but investigators in my office, the Jefferson Sheriff’s County Office, the Arvada Police Department, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Edgewater Police Department have never forgotten Heather DeWild,” Storey said in the statement. “Homicide cases become much more difficult to solve with the passage of time. The tenacity of our investigators allowed us to take this to the grand jury. We are pleased that they have returned this indictment.”

Storey told CBS4 the trio knew they were still being investigated.

“I would say I don’t know if they were shocked that they were arrested,” Storey said.

There’s still more that the public doesn’t know, like a possible motive for Heather DeWild’s murder. Storey gave a possibility.

“This was a very contentious divorce,” he said. “Certainly it was a divorce that I don’t think that Daniel DeWild wanted … they were separated at the time. They were separated for a little bit.

“Now we have a lofty burden of proof and that is beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The three DeWilds are being held on a $1 million cash bond. They are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.

I wish there were more details of what lead up to the 3 arrests. I hope this isn’t a case of “lets throw it against the wall and see if it sticks”.

This comment was great to hear! I am glad someone still believes in innocent until proven guilty. Having to read so many horrible comments on other news sites fills my heart with lead. These people are the ones you meet everyday, mothers and fathers. David is my father, Roseanne is my stepmother, and Dan is my uncle. I have grown up with each of them, they have each taught me so much! If you ever met any one of them you would be as appalled as I am. My dad loves to make people laugh and is your everyday class-clown/goofball. Roseanne is a nurturer, she has the biggest heart of anyone you will ever meet. The only time I have ever heard her yell was at a man who left his beagle in the car (windows rolled up) in over 100 degree weather! I could go on and on but I think you all get the point. Atleast give someone the fair trial before you make comments that show how guilty you think they are!
